Piódão’s Village

I had the privilege to illustrate the cover for Gerador’s magazine Set 2021 issue.

The main themes cover stories about the interior of Portugal and the LGBTQI+ community outside of the big urban centers.
Not only because I’m part of this community, but also because I'm a big advocate for my country’s natural beauty, this project meant a lot to me.

Buried deep in the Serra do Açor (a protected landscape area), Piódão is a stunning village of beautiful cottages situated in the scenic hillsides, with views that take your breath away.

This historical village is reminiscent of a crib because of the harmonious way in which its houses are arranged in the form of an amphitheater.
The distinctive feature of this mountain village with its narrow winding streets is schist, a stone found in great abundance in the region and used to build the houses and pavements, formes a large patch of uniform color, interrupted by the vivid blue of the windows or doors of some houses.

The seclusion of the village means that it has been able to maintain much of its original look. It looks almost the same as it did hundreds of years ago, and it’s easy to see the history that lines the streets.
A definite must-visit in Portugal!
